Weight Loss Wednesday!

Staircase Dogs

That’s right folks!  Time for another edition of Weight Loss Wednesday.

This has been an unusual week for our dogs.  Jack and Sadie both spent a good portion of the week away from home (boarding at Bark ‘n Lounge). I preportioned their treats for the week, and the staff measured out their food in the recommended amount. I have no way of knowing exactly how much they ate, nor the amount of exercise they got, but they don’t look like they’ve gained any weight.

Quinn stayed home with us, but ended up spending way more time than usual sleeping. A little depression, and no cohorts to run around with resulted in less activity than usual, but we stuck faithfully to the diet. However, I fear that his low activity level is going to affect his results. We shall see.

Doug is weighing them as I compose this and here are the results:

  • Quinn was our star last week with a loss of one pound. Last week:  59 pounds.  This week:  61 pounds.  Uh oh.  Weight gain of 2 pounds.
  • Jack neither lost nor gained last week. Last week:  57 pounds.  This week: 55.6 pounds. Weight loss of 1.4 pounds.  Yay, Jack!
  • Sadie gained a pound last week to end up at 53 pounds. This week: 53 pounds. No change whatsoever.

So it looks like this diet needs a major overhaul.  I guess it’s time to haul out the big guns and put everyone on (oh no) the dreaded GREEN BEAN diet!!!!

This is a food plan wherein a portion of the dog’s food is replaced by an equal amount of green beans.  Low in calories, but with enough bulk to satisfy their bellies, this is our diet of last resort.  It won’t work for Jack, who is the master of picking around anything he doesn’t want to eat (and believe me, vegetables fit into that category), but for piglets Quinn and Sadie, it just might work.

And they definitely will get more exercise just from running around together. I will have to make an extra effort to get them running in the field this week, which should be fine for all concerned as the weather has turned much cooler (Texas-speak for sub-100 degree days).

Stay tuned and I’ll let you know how it goes.
