16. invest in a bread maker.

how owning a bread maker will change your life:

  1. no more wondering/ worrying about someone else’s food preparation using possibly contaminated equipment
  2. stocking up on mixes/ flour is more convenient and takes up less space than stocking up on prebaked loaves
  3. buying a mix is cheaper than buying a prebaked loaf
  4. making bread from scratch (you’ll eventually build up a decent stock of ingredients) is cheaper than buying a mix
  5. spend less time standing in the grocery store reading labels
  6. making your own bread allows you to control the ingredients, especially since store-bought bread is available in limited flavors
  7. create more seasonal/ holiday-themed options of desserts and pastries
  8. freshly baked bread is welcome at any dinner party, particularly by you- there will be at least one thing there you know you can eat
  9. even if you’re making muffins or cinnamon rolls, the machine will stir and knead for you
  10. nothing can compare to warm, freshly baked bread!

Weekday Booze Made Me Want To Hit Snooze

This morning I am really feeling tired for some reason.  I slept for over 7 hours and I’m exhausted.  It’s tough to imagine going to the gym right now and having a great workout, but I’m going to put one foot in front of the other and I will get through it.  It’s funny because I used to get up at 3:45 every morning and now that I’m “sleeping in” until 5, I’m still getting pretty damn tired early.  I guess my body quickly adjusted.  It’s strange though because I woke up before my alarm even went off, but when I stood up out of bed… WHOA, I felt like I was going to fall on the floor and go back to sleep.

Before I cared as much about my health, I was drinking fairly regularly.  I don’t think anyone would classify me as an alcoholic, but I would have a drink or two at night and then I’d be tired the next morning and I’d really want to reach for the snooze button, but I had something to blame it on.  I’ve been very good lately about only drinking alcohol on the weekends, and I would like to eventually eliminate Sunday nights also… maybe this week.  The main reason that I’ve recently given up weekday booze is because of the calories.  It’s pretty shocking how fast you can rack up the calories with a few drinks.  They like to break it down in 2 oz at a time, or in 1.5 oz jiggers but my drinks are a little closer to 3 oz.  3 oz of Vodka is 218 calories.  So 2 drinks = 436 cals.  That’s quite a bit of calories at the end of the day.  When I’ve just had a nice healthy 600-700 calorie dinner and then an hour or two before bedtime I pack in another 436 in a couple drinks.  That was impeding my progress, so I decided to stop doing it and I think it’s really paying off.

So this morning, it’s Friday and I’m feeling quite accomplished for the week.  I did everything I planned on doing.  I ate great, I worked out hard and I didn’t have a single sip of booze.  Now it’s time to head off to the gym with the early bird crowd and step on the scale.  I’m going to keep my expectations low after losing 3 pounds last week.  Even though I feel like I’ve done everything right, I still remember that muscle weighs more than fat.  And as good as I’ve been doing, I don’t believe there’s anyway I added more fat mass, but I do believe I’ve added more muscle mass.  So…… we shall see.

I feel so much better on a diet. I ate chips and salsa the past three days along with various other foods, and I felt like absolute crap waking up. My skins been bad, my stomach’s been hurting. Tea good. Water good. Coca Cola and Mexican spices… T.T

Going to school to finish essay then off to see Eureka!

My breakfast:
1 cup of Raisin Brand with milk (yeah, screw osteoporosis), a glass of water, and a cup of green tea. Mmmm…

Lunch:
Bring money…who knows?

I’m going to stay away from noodles, rice, potatoes, and white bread until my skin gets a little better. There’s no acne, but it’s a little oily. So, inevitably, a pimple or two will show itself. I’m gonna start eating turkey more because it’s enriched with vitamin B which boost metabolism and will give me a damn figure. Also, I will start eating more spinach because I just read something about it, and there are a great deal of health benefits. Jesus, I’m going crazy with this health thing.

To do on bus:
Read Labyrinth until you feel motion sickness. Then, look out window until you can read Labyrinth again.

Borderline diabetes must be attacked fast

Borderline diabetes must be attacked fast because the poison in your bloodstream is spreading. The borderline diabetic has a limited time to stop this before the illness attacks the kidneys or the limbs

This site is different from others in that we give it to you straight, we must tell you the truth. My good friend lost his body to this illness. The key is to act fast. High blood sugar causes a poison glucose to attack the circulation. This eventually shutsdown the kidneys and heart.

The borderline or pre diabetic can lose the ability to use their  fingers or toes. Why?  The answer is that the parts of the body are dying off.  Diabetes spreads through out the body like a cancer. Why do they call diabetes the silent killer? It is because the body is dying on the inside.  The only help for the diabetic is the right borderline diet, the right pre diabetes diet can save the life of the person with high blood sugar. See this diet that has been helping many click here  http://spirithappy.wordpress.com/new-type-2-diabetes-diet-cure/

Please take care and find the right pre diabetes diet fast

arrival...

wow, the much anticipated arrival of 149 on the scale took place this morning.  146.8 on the new scale, 149 on the old.  i feel great.  even laying in bed this morning, i felt less of my belly, which is wonderful.  i still have a way to go, but there’s something about passing this hurdle.  i was stuck at the 150-152 range for a long time.  even with the holidays, i maintained but then came back down only to about 150 and couldn’t budge lower.  then along came lent.  i really think that is what did it.

giving up junk food and not being specific about only one thing, only chocolate, only french fries, only ice cream.  that would have helped, but being so broad has really had me focused on eating healthy.  i’m already pretty good at watching portion control, but when you are focused on portion control while removing the really calorie-laden nutrient-lacking junk foods, you end up consuming a lot fewer calories.

i had my session with brent this morning.  he had me do the leg press, leg extensions, abduction and lunges in a row.  that was tiring.  then onto upper body.  seated chest press, row, chest press on ball, chest pull down, assisted dips, assisted chin ups, tricep push downs, bicep curls, vibration plate squats, vibration plate plank.  exhausting!

Tablets to Help In Weight Loss

Recent studies have shown that more people are getting overweight every year. This happens not only to adults but even to kids who have just started in school.

There are many factors that have contributed to this such as the rise in the number of fast foods joints that contain a lot of saturated fat in the meals, the use of refined sugar in sodas and other processed foods, eating food with less fiber, genetics, overeating and as people age slow metabolism.

Since losing weight takes time and most people can’t wait to get rid of it, these people have decided to take the fastest way out which is through the use of weight loss tablets.

In the 1950’s until the late 90’s, doctors prescribed drugs for weight loss. The drug works by increasing the serotonin levels in the brain that makes the brain believe that the stomach is already full and thus, increases the person’s metabolic rate.

It was only after scientists discovered that these drugs had side effects and were related to cause heart valve disease that these were taken off the shelves.

Later on, modifications have been made and new drugs were developed and prescribed by doctors and many of which are still waiting for FDA approval.

The idea that a simple drug can change everything without the need to change ones diet or sacrificing anything is very tempting since people have seen friends and family members use it and have shown tremendous improvement.

This has made a lot of people spend millions of dollars every year to also experience this miracle and has given drug companies a lot of money making the drug and selling it.

Diet pills can be purchased either over-the-counter or prescribed by a doctor. Even with the advances in medical technology, these drugs still pose a health risk to the public. Problems in patients can be unpleasant such as diarrhea and vomiting, harmful such as tightness in the chest and in the urinary tract and fatal such as a heart attack or a stroke.

An overdose in using weight loss tablets can cause tremors, confusion, hallucinations, shallow breathing, renal failure, heart attack and convulsions.

The side effects vary depending on the lifestyle and health of the person and can be minimized as long as one consults the doctor and follows the prescribed dosage when using it.

Should one decide to stop using the drugs, studies have shown that a person will experience withdrawal symptoms and side effects. These include noticeable mood swings, hyper-activity, and pain in the stomach, insomnia and nightmares, severe irritability, extreme fatigue, depression, nausea, vomiting and trembling.
A lot of clinical tests will show that the taking this weight loss tablets really work. But this can only work if it is done with a low calorie diet and an exercise plan.

A person can jog every morning or sign up and workout in a gym. Just like taking any medicine, one should first consult the doctor before undergoing any form of exercise.

The best exercise plan should have cardiovascular and weight training exercises. This helps burn calories and increase the muscle to fat ratio that will increase ones metabolism and lose weight.

It is up to the person already to stick to the program to see that it works.

The Importance of Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a key player when it comes to weight loss and for your health.  It reduces coronary risk by half, improves mood and energy levels, increases metabolic rate, and strengthens the immune system just to name a few.  The problem is that half of the population is deficient.  This poses a great concern to anyone who wants better health and more important to most, weight loss.  It is very troubling also that this epidemic is rarely discussed.  My advice for you is to talk with your doctor to get tested.  I also highly recommend doing your research; there are a lot of roles that vitamin D play when it comes to health.  For instance, there are receptors for vitamin D in 30 different types of tissue and vitamin D is involved in the transcription of 200 different DNA sequences.  In short, there is very little in which vitamin D is not involved.

A main factor in vitamin D deficiency is the lack of exposure to sun.  During the winters months this is attributed to the cloudy, cold weather but even in the summer the first thing we do when we go outdoors is to lather up in sunscreen.  The body makes vitamin D3 freely when exposed to the sun but we are blocking it.  SPF 15 blocks 99% of vitamin D production.  It is recommended to get short bouts of full exposure to the sun.  Afterwards you can lather up or find shade.

But, if you choose to supplement, then the next question is dosage. While an earlier 2004 paper suggested 1,000 IU/day was sufficient to maintain adequate blood levels of vitamin D, five years later there was been a flurry of research (especially in the last two years) which concludes that even these blood levels are actually insufficient.  The vitamin D council provides a blanket recommendation for individuals who suspect deficiency to use a dose of 5,000IU (125mcg) of vitamin D3 per day and then take a blood test after three months to see whether the dose needs to be altered up or down.  The consensus of research in the last two years is that around 4,000 IU/day is required to maintain optimal bloods levels, in the absence of sunlight.  This is a departure from the inclination of mainstream medicine, where a taciturn fear of vitamin D toxicity still clearly exists.  This seems to stem from a 1984 study which found toxicity at only 3,800 IU/day, and although the results have never been repeated in similar studies and recent research has shown that 10,000 IU/day poses no risk to adults, the US Food and Nutrition Board set an upper limit at this figure of 3,800 IU/day.  The arguments continue to rage. Meanwhile, if you would prefer to use supplements, then I would suggest getting a referral to a respected nutritional therapist.

Despite the clear bill of health given to higher doses of oral vitamin D, I still think its always a good idea to check levels in the body when using supplements. This is done through a blood test but, when you do so, be sure to ask the doctor for the right test. Although 1,25-hydroxyvitamin D is the more metabolically active substance in the body, tests for 25-hydroxyvitamin D are a much more reliable test of vitamin D status in the body. Optimal levels appear to be between 45-56ng/mL.

Again I recommend doing your research.  It is your health, don’t put it into someone else’s hands or worse yet, just avoid it.

The Best and Worst Beverages for Weight Loss

For those of us still holding strong to our New Year’s Resolutions of maintaining a healthy diet; one consumption item that tends to slip our minds because we are not actually “eating” it is beverages.

Average Americans get one-fifth of their daily calories from beverages.  Choosing the right drinks can boost metabolism, curb your appetite, and reduce your total calorie count.

Helpers!

Water: drinking water before meals also may encourage the stomach to feel full more quickly, making you eat much less.  Water’s other benefits are having a positive effect on your metabolism, energy, and it’s great for your skin.

Vegetable juice: is every bit as nutritious as fruit juice with about half the calories.

Coffee: when you need a shot of caffeine, coffee is better than soda or energy drinks, black coffee is calorie-free and rich in antioxidants.

Green Tea: is an excellent choice when looking for a little caffeine.  It also can promote weight loss because it contains plant based compounds that temporarily cause the body to burn calories.

Spoilers!

Soda: is full of hundreds of empty calories, meaning your body is getting no nutritional benefit out of them.  According do the Center for Science in the Public Interest, carbonated soft drinks are the single largest source of calories in the American diet.

Cocktails: hard liquor has less calories than beer or wine, but once you start mixing sodas, cream, and mixes…watch out!

Fancy Coffee: once you add heavy cream and flavored syrups, and innocent cup of coffee becomes chock full of sugar and calories!

In between.

Fruit juice: it can have as many calories as soda, but has far more vitamins and nutrients to offer the body in return.  The best way is to look for 100% real juice, avoid extra sugar and artificial sweeteners.

Fruit smoothies: the best way to go is with homemade kind to avoid unnecessary fat and sugar.  Fresh fruit, and non-fat milk or yogurt is all you need.

7 Simple Weight Loss Tips for Teenagers

The teenage years are one of the most confusing moments in a human being’s development. They are a time when one becomes conscious of how one’s body looks like and makes every effort to be within the acceptable social definition of good looks.

One of the definitions of good looks is that as a teenager, you should never be overweight! This is religiously obeyed by almost everyone and explains why many teenagers these days are depressed. This also explains why there are thousands of searches a month for weight loss tips for teenagers and rapid weight loss tips. Internet sites that offer this information are one of the most visited sites online.

In this article, you will find seven simple weight loss tips for teenagers. These are practical tips that have been used successfully by teenagers to manage their weight. Before you implement any of the tips, though, you need to be aware of certain things and ask your family doctor before doing anything on your own. There are certain tips for weight loss that can negatively affect the growth and development of a teenager, so don’t say I didn’t warn ya!

Since your body is growing and developing during your teenage years, it needs lost of energy and therefore should be supplied with large amounts of substrates. The body needs both glucose and amino acids and therefore must be supplied in adequate amounts.

The first item we have on our list of weight loss tips for teenagers is to ensure that you wear a positive attitude. Your self esteem must be sky-high enough to enable you to have the confidence in taking up new discipline and sticking to your goals.

Secondly, you need to know your body. There are certain parts of our lives or body shapes that we cannot change. They are designed to be like that by the genetic makeup in us. In such situations, you will need to check whether it is possible to lose weight in those areas before trying yourself.

Thirdly,  avoid starving yourself. Starvation is usually used as a fast-track tool against weight gain. This usually happens more among adults than kids, but you will occasionally find kids trying out this method as well. My advice to you: Don’t. Starving yourself can lead to harmful results and will have negative effects on your body and weight in the long run, putting all your efforts to waste.

Fourth, avoid the processed foods. These include processed potatoes such as potato crisps and all those delicious cookies that are very, very harmful. (But they’re so gooood, I know.)

Fifth, drink adequate amounts of water everyday. It does not matter what age one is at, you will need at least 8 glasses of water per day. This helps your body’s metabolism and flushes out the dirty toxins from your body, thus helping it work more effectively and properly.

Sixth, get enough sleep. This is just as important as the foods that we eat. Teenagers like other adults require at least seven hours of sleep per day. Just don’t sleep too much!

Seventh, choose your friends wisely, they are the ones that stick to you during the tough times and will help you achieve your weight loss goals much more easily.

There you have it kids, 7 weight loss tips for teenagers that are looking for ways to lose weight. Losing weight isn’t hard but it isn’t easy either, so get to work!

New Year's Resolutions update (11)

I went to Weight Watchers tonight and I have lost 1lb. Woo Hoo! This means that I have 6lbs still to go to reach my first weight loss target of 2010. I have already lost a stone and managed to keep it off for some time. Now that I am confident that I am finally able to maintain weight loss, I am keen to lose some more weight.

I am concentrating on small target weight losses as this feels more achieveable.

I’ve also added a new Resolution (No.13) – I am recording everything I eat to help me to lose weight.

This is pretty crucial to me losing weight. I have been planning my meals in advance and so this has helped me to some extent. However, I know that in order to be consistently successful, I have to record absolutely everything I eat. I have been easing myself into this for the past week and have just got back into the habit of doing this. I know how hard it is to do this all the time, but I also know I have to take this next step. I’m also now ready to do it.

day three and four

I got my nose pierced yesterday – ouch! It was SO tired, it’s amazing how much i worked myself up! Crazy!! Didn’t go swimming, but was pretty active (more so than usual) again! Light excercise and then walked for two and a half hours while my brother got his tattoo done!

Food wise, im a legend hehehe and water wise! Im just cool! The water tasted a bit funny though, i wasn’t too sure how I was going to finish it, i think it was just the brand of water! Which is okay, I put a bit of tang in it to give it an orange flavour! nothing like a heavily watered down drink with a light taste of something else. I’m not too sure what tasted worse? The before or after! YUCK! Will be buying more today hahaha!

Today I’m not sure what the plan is, I’m pretty sure we ARE going swimming but at about 530 before prissy goes out around 600-630. 30 minutes of intense swimming! AHHHH it’s funny when you sweat in a pool, well your forehead does.. at least I know it’s working when im knackered! :)

will update later on this afternoon!

Lower Body Lift

Lower body lift surgery never ceases to amaze me. It’s ability to transform a human body can be startling. We often use terms like lower body lift or LBL but never really discuss what exactly this type of surgery entails. The various components that make up a lower body lift include

1- Abdominoplasty

2- Rectus muscle repair

3- Pubic Lift or Monsplasty

4- Lateral Thigh Lift

5- Buttock Lift

6- Buttock augmentation in select cases

As you can see, this addresses most, if not all, of the cosmetic concerns most weight loss patients have affecting their midbody. It is important to understand what this procedure entails so that you can understand what it will and won’t accomplish. Perhaps the most important limitation of this surgery is its lack of effect on the inner thighs. This area requires thigh lift surgery directed specifically at the inner thigh. In most cases, I will perform this as a separate procedure.

Once you understand what lower body lift surgery involves, you can see why it is usually the first procedure most weight loss patient undergo in their journey. It is a procedure that takes between 5-6 hours to complete. Most will stay in the hospital overnight and can return to work in 3-4 weeks. As with most surgery, it is about 6 weeks before you can return to unrestricted exercise.

The next question I usually hear after completing a lower body lift is, “When can I have my next surgery?” There is no one answer but the general principle is to allow you to recover back to your baseline and to allow your blood counts to return to normal. This may only take 1 month or it may take 6 months. Everyone recovers differently.

Lower body lift surgery is a big procedure. While, in selected cases, it can be combined with other procedures, I usually recommend performing it as an isolated procedure. Safety has to be kept in mind and minimizing your risks is of paramount importance. You didn’t lose your weight overnight and you shouldn’t expect to regain your slim figure overnight either. Patience has its rewards.

The Beginning and the background

Once upon time, not many moons ago I used to be a lean mean rugby smashing machine. I loved it, a life full of training, getting paid to play rugby, getting paid to go to the gym and getting paid to be healthy and getting paid to legally vent my anger on other humans without being charged with GBH.  It was probably the best job ever. But if truth be told, I was 19-20 and 250 quid a week was never going to get me onto the property ladder or past the front door at a Michelin star restaurant.  For me however it was plenty, plenty for doing damn all really. During my peak I weighed 100kg with 16% body fat which is pretty good going, I think. In truth all that BMI shit means nothing to me, the only thing that matters is that I feel “ yea, I look good today” when I leave the house, and not how iv felt recently, “fuck, I don’t want to go out not looking like this, jesus this t-shirt fitted two weeks ago”…….”Emma, have you shrunk my t-shirts again”, I pray she says yes, but in truth the washing machine had damn all to do with it, the shrinkage was more to do with that other kitchen appliance, the merchant of death, my fridge.

As you may or may not know, with putting on weight, it is something that you gradually notice and it is something you gradually say “I will deal with this” and as you tuck into a nice McDonalds that pang of guilt sits heavily upon your shoulders and you tell yourself…. “Right, after this weekend I’m going to sort this out once and for all” (Why is it always after this weekend? It’s as if it’s a death sentence and we must get as much gluttony in as humanly possible before we are sent to the diet chair). I have been noticing it greatly during the past few months. I have suddenly went from wearing size 36 trousers up to an embarrassing 42. I have jeans that were once way too baggy and needed a garden hose around them to keep them up that no longer fit me, they are just too tight. I’ve always been broad chested due to the rugby so the impact on my shirts has not been that great. I’ve gone from a 16.5 to a 17.5. My once toned, comfortable 42 inch chest is now a 48 inch to compensate for my bustling gut.

In truth, I’m fucking ashamed I have let myself get into this state, I’m a joke. I have the tools accessible to me to get out of this pickle but I have chosen not to, or rather every week I tell myself “after the weekend mate, after the weekend”.  I earn enough money to be able to eat healthily, I don’t work long hours, I work on the road but there is always food readily available, I have a very supportive, gorgeous and slim significant other, I coach rugby as a hobby I have a lovely house, In fact I have a perfect life so there is no excuse for me getting this way.

Let’s not dwell on myself loathing. I shall explain where it started to go wrong , my perfect job was not perfect for too long, I remember it plainly, 21st October 2006, I was playing a game in Ireland, I had just come back from injury and was playing in a 2nd team fixture  to get my fitness back. I got through the game relatively unscathed until the last 5 minutes when I caught a pass at standstill. I remember how my foot was planted, I was then tackled by two players hitting me from opposite sides simultaneously, I heard a crack, then a rip, I saw the blood, then my own vomit, I writhed  around in agony. Next thing I know I’m high on morphine telling my physio how hot she is. That was that, I had shattered my knee cap, shredded my anterior cruciate ligament, tore the Posterior cruciate, ripped the cartilage and put my knee to an unnatural angel.  Due to health insurance difficulties (basically the club fucked me sideways) I had to wait 3 years to get everything fixed on the NHS or pay 30 grand to go private. To cut a long story short my career was over, since then I re-tore my ACL on 3 more occasions. I finally had a knee reconstruction on 8th September, a few months ago (Major opp). Whilst I have put on a fair amount of weight since I quit playing rugby Iv put the most weight on during the past 5 months. I simply have not been able to do any exercise. I was unable to walk for 2 months; confined to my sofa I burnt more gas than calories. I also quit smoking and so over the last few months my weight has ballooned. So much so that on a recent visit to home my Dad had to have a chat with me regarding my long term health. Fuck a duck I thought, I am 24 what the hell is going on. Here is the key though, for as long as I can remember I kept telling myself…..”it’s easy to get back into shape, it will only take a few weeks work” well time to harden the fuck up and find out how easy it really is.

Oh and so as you all know, I hate the gym, I hate the majority of the wankers that go to the gym, barring those who are actually trying to lose weight. Those who grunt and groan, there is just no need, you are idiots. Those who go and flex their muscles in the mirror as they walk, you lot are fucking douche bags. Those who spend the time perving….buy a porno, it’s cheaper. Those who spend the time on the mobile telling everyone in the gym about your weekend, save it for ladies who lunch meetings, idiots.  I hate dieting. I hate the idea behind it simply because I love food.

So I’m not going to diet and I’m not going to join a gym. I wouldn’t give fitness first my money. My plan is to regulate my intake of food, not dieting but no over indulging like I used to I’m still going to have the odd cup cake or Rivington Grill sticky toffee pudding.  I will use the shitty gym in my apartment, (will post pic), or I will use the rugby pitch, my second home. I am not relying on fancy Nike breathable vests or snazzy Adidas retro trainers or shock absorbing shorts to get me motivated in the gym. I’m a simple bloke who hates all that shite, I’m relying on my shitty puma trainers, my cotton t-shirts that barely fit anymore, my rugby shorts that remind me of who I once was and my I-Pod (playlist ideas welcome).  Most importantly I’m relying on the support of Emma to keep me focused. She means the world to me and to be honest  I hate the fact that she has a fat slob permanently attached to her when we are out. When we are “reading stories” in bed I can only wonder how grossed out she must be, she says she isn’t but I couldn’t blame her if she was. I want to do this for her as much as for me.

Right lets get cracking, time to get rid of the fat fuck and bring back the tank.  The chronicles of a fat bastard starts here. Warning this will be a no holds barred account with possibly some disturbing photo’s of me and my stretch marks.

Dieting Is All About Trying Healthy Foods

Include these healthy foods in your diet. No matter how much weight you are working out to loose or gain, these healthy foods will enhance any diet. Do not mind about the added calories, they are so minimal. To think of it, most food contains calories. The benefits you get from these foods are great.

Let us drink to your health!

Water for the body is good. Water with flavoring? As Rabbis usually says, we could look at that in different ways. Funny sometimes are Rabbis but actually there is too much wisdom in that. You see, you will never go wrong with water. No one does. Any water that is not needed by the body gets out of the body. The more is flushed out, the cleaner our system gets, and the healthier we become. What should be bothering is what we mix with the water. Perfect eating always leads to perfect diet. Read my acai optimum review.

Fruit juices? Okay but make it natural. Juices squeezed out of fresh fruits do wonders for the body. It has some calories but the benefits far outweigh whatever the added calories. The sugar in fresh fruits unlike processed sugar is good. The calories derived from it give constant, steady burning energy unlike table sugar that gives sudden energy boosts and the feeling of tiredness after wards. Because of the natural sugars, the feeling of being full lasts and so we feel hungry less. If the diet leans on strict adherence, do not buy bottled juices or powders. There are so many other additives in it that may upset your dieting program. This is the time where you should read the label. Read the fine print too. You may be getting more of the additives and less of the fruit juice. Most fruit juice preparations are so watered down, perked up with additives, highly sugared and not worth much in the healthy foods department.

Coffee – Yes. Coffee are very rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants benefit the body in many ways. One of these is the slowing down of the aging process. Now, eating food that are rich in antioxidants may not shave off years to our looks but it makes our body function better. But limit that to a few cups because of the caffeine.

Then We Feast
Eat avocado and no, do steer off it because of the fat. The fat in avocado is good and considered in nutrition circles as “healthy Fat”. Avocado is one of the richest in fiber especially those that are fully ripe. Actually the more mature it gets the better the fiber.  It is one of those rare food that are very filling without calories. Just like coffee avocados are very rich in antioxidants less the caffeine. It is also an excellent source of Omega 3 fatty acids. Avocados could be a complete meal when mixed with milk. It also blends very well with many different kinds of food like salads, guacamole, tortilla etc. This is not a boring health food.

If avocado tops in fiber, walnuts top in Omega 3. Good as salad and pastry toppings, it is also a good portable snack. Hemp oil is almost similar in benefits.

Likewise, apples, potatoes, oats, Brazil nuts, and fishes of the fresh water/fatty variety are healthy foods that you will never go wrong even when you eat plenty.

Snowed-in>>>weigh-in

Due to the snow  I was unable to weigh-in last Saturday at my Dr.’s so again I had no clue what my weight is.. I think I will go back to weighing in every Saturday.

So I was at my exes for the snow from Friday-Monday night. Tuesday morning I had to go into work and then I figured since we were going to get another 11-12 inches of snow I’d ask him if I could come over again. SO I was at his house again from Tuesday evening until this morning.

Well Wednesday morning I decided to take my big girl pill and step on his scale and it read that I was

DRUMROLL PLEASE >>>>

-2lbs

I’m happy with all the eating and drinking at his house that my portion control worked to not totally derail my progress. I’m thinking over 2 weeks I probably lost at least 4lbs and gained 2 while snowed in. He got on the scale and said that from Saturday to Monday he gained 3lbs.

My cooking does the BODY ..good?lol

I blame his awesome ribs he smoked on the grill. I blame all the breakfasts and the lamb black bean chilli I made on his demise and mine. I also blame Red Berry Ciroc and juices. yumm yumm. It was FUN being bad for a week but it didn’t feel good to only lose 2lbs.

I did go to the gym on Monday after I left his house though. It was rough getting on the elliptical after a few day break.

I will spend my friday night back in the gym. Hydrating myself and getting re-focused.

I had a great week being around the person I love. Who I hope loves me as much as I love him and will eventually want to make this official again. AS of right now he hasnt said squat about Valentines Day and I’m definitely not going to be the one to mention it.

I’ll be weighing in at my Dr.’s office tomorrow and getting my long overdue b-12 shot. What to expect on Sunday..who knows?! I did get him a gift. Despite the fact that we arent together to me he is my Valentine. He’s the person I think of the most. The person that stole my heart AGAIN. I just love him. IN the meantime while I’ll continue my journey of weight-loss, forgiveness and peace within myself..

I just wanna scream to him:

I am ready for love
Why are you hiding from me
I’d quickly give my freedom
To be held in your captivity

you know India Arie ..style…

What are you doing this weekend? If you live on the east coast how was your snowPOCALYPSE!

Tabata Interval Training - Sample Workouts

Tabata is a form of high intensity interval training. The Tabata protocol is made up of 20 seconds of work, immediately followed by 10 seconds of rest, then complete the sequence 8 times! That gives you a total of 4 minutes!

3 reasons why Tabata interval training works:

  1. It allows you to effectively manage your time and plan the perfect workout.
  2. You can use any exercise whether it’s cardio or resistance based to put into the Tabata format.
  3. High intensity interval training such as Tabata is best for fat loss. It increases calorie expenditure during and for up to 38 hours after exercise due to excess post exercise oxygen consumption – EPOC. (See the article Steady state aerobic training vs anaerobic interval training – http://chelmarchioli.wordpress.com/2010/02/12/interval-training-is-the-best-for-fat-loss/)

Here are 3 different situations you may be in where you can use my sample tabata interval programs depending on equipment and location. Remember the 4 minutes is made up of 20 seconds of work, followed by 10 seconds of rest, x 8! Take a minute break after each exercise to rest and change over and set up for the next set of intervals. All three work outs can be completed in 30 minutes. If you had more or less time to workout then you can add or take an exercise away, Just allow 5 minutes per exercise.

Gym:

  1. Bike – seated climb (4/8) sprints (4/8) (4 mins)

             1 min rest

  1. Lat Pulldown (4mins)

             1 min rest

  1. Rower – sprints (4mins)

              1 min rest

  1. Chest Press (4mins)

             1 min rest

  1. Cross trainer – sprints (4mins)

             1 min rest

  1. Leg Press (4 mins)

No Equipment:

  1. Running – (4 mins)

              1 min rest

  1. Push ups (4mins)

              1 min rest

  1. Burpees (4mins)

              1 min rest

  1. Mountain climbers (4mins)

              1 min rest

  1. Dynamic lunges (4mins)

              1 min rest

  1. Step ups (4mins)

Boxing equipment:

  1. Boxing – Jabs  (4mins)

             1 min rest

  1. Push ups (4mins)

             1 min rest

  1. Boxing – hooks(4mins)

             1 min rest

  1. squats(4mins)

             1 min rest

  1. Boxing – Uppercuts (4mins)

             1 min rest

  1. Bodyweight – abdominal brace (4mins)

Ok, now you’ve got the idea you can go ahead and try some of these workouts for yourself. You’ve got the idea so you can put anything you like into these workouts to target specific goals you may have. One advantage to have would be a gym boss interval timer or some other kind of timer you can set this up on. You can buy them from Hart Sport Australia or get the FREE application on your iphone.

Let me know how you go and if you’ve got any other great workouts that you may have done or created yourself then please leave a comment. Have fun!!

Day 4: Yoga X

Just finished Day 4: Yoga X. First of all Yoga used to always be my choice of workout, I absolutely love yoga. However, I have noticed that my yoga routines are nothing like the Yoga X!!! My last attempt at Yoga X several weeks ago, I had to stop at like 30 min into the video. Today, I made it 45 minutes. This is all due to an issue with my back. All of the twisting and turning, threw my back out last time, this time I didn’t allow it to get that far. I stopped once it started hurting, but realized I must be making an improvement due to the fact that I got further into the workout this time! WOOHOO. Maybe someday I can get all the way through with no back issues!?!

As for food, I had scrambled egg whites and 1% cottage cheese this morning for breakfast, had some homemade potato skins with lowfat cheese and turkey bacon on top. Getting ready to start dinner shortly and making homemade spaghetti with ground turkey and 7 grain noodles.

Today’s Food Journal.  Until I am able to figure out a better way to paste these, you might have to click on the picture to get a better view of what I ate.  Copy and pasting doesn’t work very well :)   My goal is to be down 40 lbs by July 10th, so Sparkpeople has me eating between 1480-1830 calories per day, and I have a requirement set to burn about 1500 calories per week via excercise.

Weight Loss Exercise After Pregnancy

When you are pregnant, a lot of changes take place in your body. Due to hormonal imbalances, your body will start gaining weight. Being a new mom you will have to find out ways and means of how you will lose the weight that you have put of during pregnancy. In reality it almost takes a year to come back to shape and to lose your tummy fat provided you follow a proper weight loss exercise.

You have acquired a belly for 9 months so you have to give it some time to come back to shape again. The moment you give birth, your body starts shrinking and you may lose from 8 to 15 pounds during the first two or three weeks, as the body gets rid of the excess fluid in it.

Before you go back to any exercise, consult a professional and then decide what to do because your body is not out of its ordeal and you may injure your body during the exercise. You need to get clearance from your doctor, whether you should start any exercise and it also depends on the type of delivery you had. For more on weight loss, visit fvo system abnehmen.

Breastfeeding can literally be called a natural weight loss exercise and it is also the most popular way of losing weight. Breastfeeding needs an extra 500 calories everyday. So don’t think of going into a diet during this time because you body needs extra fuel for gaining this calorie. Loosing too much weight during breastfeeding may reduce milk supply which will release extra toxins that mixes with the milk, so it is harmful for the baby.

Exercise after pregnancy may help you out with mood swings, which happen usually post pregnancy due to hormonal imbalance. But this weight loss exercise which you will undergo should be simple and easy. You can take some rounds around the house or even make some trips up and down the stairs. Your body is just healing and any rigorous physical exercise to lose weight may just turn out to be very harmful.

You should probably wait for 6 weeks after a normal delivery or 8 weeks after a C section before you start exercising. Start with a 10 minute exercise and then gradually increase it to 25 minutes. Swimming, yoga and walking are the best for a mother. You can put on some of your favorite tunes and exercise; this will help you to even relax. So a weight loss exercise after pregnancy can be fun this way.

Rushes - 8th Jan

Rumpus down with a stinking cold, so off school today.

Dropped Honey off, came home and did 40 mins on the Wii Active instead of my usual run. Lost 2lbs in the last week – yay!

Ah well, it was snowing so running would have been no fun. Luckily, the snow isn’t settling and it’s forecast to go away.

Booked tickets for A Marja!, then realised I need to re-arrange a hair-appointment that clashes.

Booked appointment with GP for Rumpus tomorrow afternoon. Tried to make appointment with SENCO – was told she would call me back, but she didn’t. Will try again tomorrow.

Filled in form for the craft fair. Heard back that regular exhibitors get priority, but I’m top of the list if they have space but the organiser seemed to think I’d be fine. Now I need to work out what I need to take with me, and how long it’s going to take to produce it all, and how to fit all that in with the regular work. What have I done to myself?!

More embroidery on Anthriscus – it’s starting to feel as though it’ll *never* be finished.

Feeling a bit stressed and under pressure with everything at the moment – I think it’s partly just tiredness from the over-indulgent weekend.

Fun session on SERE tonight – all hell is let loose, now it’s just chaos & fighting to the end – YAY! 3082 words/3 scenes. Less than 10 scenes to go! WOOT! The race in to the end is the most fun part of writing …. especially when it’s rocking along like it is at the moment.

My father calls me Bree...

And if you’ve ever watched Desperate Housewives, you’re probably groaning right now.  Super judgemental, emasculating, perfect and perfectly annoying Bree?

I really don’t think I’m that bad.  I’m certainly not that perfect, though I have a streak of perfectionism a mile wide, which means I’m constantly disappointing myself. Before I started dying my hair blonde, I had her red (though perhaps not quite so flaming).  I like to throw dinner parties, and I cross stitch and embroider and sew.  I believe in trying to make life beautiful when you can, which seems to be Bree’s goal as well.  I know great tips about how to get stains out, know how to make my own cleaning products, and I recycle.  I would garden if I didn’t live in a walk-up apartment.  I dust, and I look after the people I care about, and I sometimes can be seen flitting around in the kitchen in my scarlet apron.

What I really am, is someone that’s quite unusual these days; a housewife without kids.  While stay-at-home moms are still out there, the career-less wife who keeps house all day is truly an endangered species.  I’m the only one I know, and the people I know all assume I’m just taking some time off, before I go back to work.  From a practical point, that may end up being true, but it’s not necessarily a major goal of mine.

How did I end up here?  Two years ago, my husband and I lost our baby daughter.  Shortly after, I lost my job, due to taking too much time off during a complicated pregnancy and subsequent grieving period after losing our little girl.  A few months after that, our house burned down.  It was an awful lot of hits in a short amount of time (during that same period of time, we were going through a major home reno, our pet rabbit passed away, my cousin passed away, and we lost a beloved cat in our fire.  It was a bad time).  I was in shock, mentally and physically, and there was no way I was going to be mentally capable of functioning in a new work environment.

After a while, it was just so nice to be able to cook and bake and clean and pursue my hobbies, that working became less and less interesting as a possibility.  Unfortunately, during that same period of time I put on an excessive amount of weight.  I’ve struggled with weight my entire life, but I’ve never been this big.  It’s kept me from wanting to go back to work as well, because I deal with a lot of shame about my body.  I’ve been working on changing both my body and my attitude this year, so we’ll see where that takes me.  We’ll see where life takes me, perhaps.

Day 3: The discovery

You can do a step class while watching TV!

It is not the same as the regular step classes (which totally fuck me up when they want me to clap and step at the same time), but it makes me far less guilty than I have ever felt while watching tv. The Wii remote makes clicking sounds, and I step up and down for 10 minutes. Simple as that.  So while Addison and Mark are getting it on, I’m burning off the pudding. Wicked.

Also, I did 954 steps in 10 mintues – it was my first classification as a calorie roaster.

I had “gained .02″ lbs at the start of the workout and “0.9″ by the end. I’m not sure I trust the effectivenes. Tomorrow I will test out an outside scale

Ouch, My Everything

This time around, I feel it’s incredibly important to not only change my eating habits for the better, but to also change my (mostly) sedentary life style. To accomplish this, my boyfriend and I recently joined 24 Hour Fitness*. We’ve been pretty good about going several times a week and doing cardio, nothing too incredibly strenuous, but something’s better than nothing especially when you’re just starting back up!

We were starting to feel just about ready to knock our regimen up a notch or two, so we decided to take advantage of the free personal training session that the gym offers to new clients. I was a little wary of the whole thing because I’m so very out of shape at the moment, but our sessions were yesterday, and I’m extremely happy to report that I loved it!! My trainer was absolutely wonderful. She didn’t make me feel awful about being unfit. She was fun to work with, and she definitely kicked my butt! We did a whole bunch of floor work (which is my favorite . . . the weight machines are nice, but give me machine-less pilates any day and I’ll be just fine), and lots of stretching. I found it funny how shocked she was at my flexibility. I had told her that I was a dancer for most of my life up until after high school, but something tells me she didn’t really take me seriously. It’s interesting the perceptions people have about those who are overweight . . . but that’s for a different entry.

After our sessions, Josh and I stayed for what we thought would be a nice relaxing yoga class. Turns out it was less a yoga class than it was a crazy-ass death cardio class from hell. So, needless to say, when I woke up this morning every single one of my major muscle groups were throbbing! There’s a picture of myself that I posted several months ago – I took it after doing a workout dvd. That’s pretty much what I looked like all day! It’s feeling much better now, but every time I sit down and stand up again I feel like an eighty-year-old woman. Not pretty. There’s a lot of noise involved and it takes me about thirty seconds to stand up straight. I’ll be happy when my body once again becomes used to working out on a regular basis!

So, what’s the point of all this wordiness? I signed up for some personal training sessions in the next few weeks!! I’m super excited and a little nervous . . . but mostly excited. So, wish me luck, everyone out there in Interweb Land. I’m pretty sure I’m gonna need it.

*For those interested, if you have or know someone who has a Costco card, they’re selling two year memberships for 24 Hour Fitness right now for $299.99 a month (tax is included in the price). The price averages out to about $12/month and the sign up fee is already included which is a crazy good deal considering most gyms ask for about $30/month. Plus, it’s all access to every 24 Hour Fitness gym except for Super Sports. It’s definitely worth looking into if you’re interested in getting back on the health wagon.

The Workout Whine

I haven’t been blogging much because I feel like a failure. A big fat (literally!) failure.  Full of impending doom! And gloom! And more doom!

Maybe that is because it’s weigh-in week. Arg. Friday is the day.  I need to dress in nothing but chiffon that day.. or is there an even lighter fabric I could wear?

Do they make workout clothes in Tulle?

I remember when I was in Weight Watchers, they had a little sign at each weigh-in station “You must leave your clothes on to weigh in”. Really? Do I gotta?

Maybe I will weigh all my work out clothes Thursday night to make sure I am wearing the least weight.

Maybe I need to quit obsessing so.

I am looking forward to Friday though because I will get a new workout.  This current one is “strength” and it is a killer. Literally! I am sure by the time I get to the end of each set and go to do skull crushers I am going to crush my skull! She moved me from a 15lb dumbbell to a 20 for them. Wow. Luckily when it is strength week, I only have to do a set of 10 instead of 20. This is sort of what I am talking about except with a single weigh, hands on each end:

She also has me using a 20 for my chest press, and I am thinking I might drop that 20 on my chest and bruise a lung or two. One these I am doing one arm at a time:

That’s not the worst though. I have to do this one exercise  where I step up on a step platform, do a bi-cep curl and then move one arm over my head. Not only did she move the weight up to 15 this time, but she added a riser on to the step so now I do it with three risers.

11-26-09 013

http://mealsandmoves.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/112609014.jpg?w=314&h=419

So for me, I am leading with the right leg, stepping up to a platform up on 3 risers, doing my bicep curl, and then extending the right arm up over my head. Bring that down and step down, then repeat but lead with left leg and extend  the left arm. I have a weaker left leg from a fall a few years ago, and so leading with the left is hard for me.

Here’s the style of step, this one has 2 risers:

See full size image

Most of the other stuff I have is just normal, nothing too much to whine about.

Single leg press -like this except laying flat and only one leg at a time- 70 lbs:

See full size image

Hamstring curl:

A standing row:

Body Solid G1S Standing Row

Oh and my pre-strength stuff is 30 mins of cardio (elliptical) and then 60 seconds modified plank:

30 seconds a side on side planks:

Side Plank Exercise And then after my strength, I do crunches with a 15 lb kettle ball

And then my reverse crunches

After doing two sets of everything (I do set of 20 of the two crunches) I am one exhausted and sweaty chick! My cats are lucky that I don’t come home and crumple in a little ball.  No, I feed them and then crumple in a little ball.

I don’t know what Amanda has on schedule for me on Friday, but I fear it’s going to be one of those weeks were I do cardio intervals after every two exercises. I was lucky I was able to walk after those last time!

Well I hope I didn’t get too Copy and Paste happy with the pictures. I just like to actually show what it is that I am doing. I also don’t know why that step picture took so much white space, but it won’t let me delete it. *sigh*

If I survive Friday, I will report in!

February 3

I want to post about my awesome recumbent exercise bike today.

It’s a Nordic Track – don’t remember the model number – but I found a picture of it:

I love my bike!

My husband uses it every day too and it’s super easy to adjust the seat for my shorter legs. It’s got (I think) 20 pre-programmed exercise routines that focus from weight loss (what I’m using) to cardio (what my hubby uses).  It’s very quiet so I can exercise in the morning without waking up my husband. And it’s got a really wide, comfortable seat – don’t laugh, a wide seat is really important to someone with a wide butt!

I can’t seem to get the hang of the heart rate handles that are supposed to tell you what your current heart rate is, but I think it’s operator error – not a defect in the machine. I could never get our old treadmill to do the heart rate thingy right either.

Anyway, this is my wonderful exercise bike – so now you know what I’m talking about when I tell you I cycled 4 miles today!

Weight Loss - Alli The Weight Loss Drug

Since the Alli Weight Loss Drug hit the UK market last year sales have gone through the roof.

It is easy to get hold of from the chemist or online providing your BMI is above 25.  If your unsure what your BMI is follow the link at the bottom of the page to the BMI calculator.

Alli works by preventing the body from absorbing excess fat.  I have read reports suggesting it will help people lose approx an extra pound of weight for every 2-3 pounds that they would normally lose.

Its no wonder people are quick to try it.  I’ll be honest i was tempted myself until i read about the side effect, which include loss of bowel control!!

I’m surprised that anyone is desperate enough to want to lose weight faster by putting up with these kind of side effects.

If you considering Alli the weight loss drug i suggest you read this article before you go ahead and order.  My guess is after reading it you’ll stick to choosing a healthy diet and regular exercise to shift those pounds.  I read this article and couldn’t stop laughing.

Oblivious!

I’m completely oblivious to the fact that I have gained 30 lbs…I went from being 160 to 120 then back to 150 now I need to get to 120 by may and hopefully by the end of June it’ll be 110…

I;m not going to go on about this cause the mnore I talk about it to others the more I want to stop. It sounds foolish in my mind. So I’m going to stop riiiiiight now.

Okay so the other thing I have in mind is being a smart shopper. I need a cardigan, 2 pairs of jeans, a pair of boots, and a nice sun dress and I’m packed for summer…come to think of it…I just need a motor cycle jacket for the spring…I’m craving that right now… But hopefully next time I go shopping I’ll be more thrilled how size medium is loose on me..oh yea I wasn’t supposed to talk about it…oh well…wish me luck… :D

Golden rules for quick weight loss

What is efficient weight loss? It is losing coefficient and then, solon importantly, obligation that coefficient off. If you retrogress metric but then the friendless pounds spread justness bet onto you, that’s really not real efficient, is it?

How can you succeed the weight loss that you want in the prototypical point, and then how can you sustenance it off? We’ve all seen the many and all-too-typical failures in this concern. Where do we move with powerful unit exit?

We start on a unit reduction system with the noesis that there is no such target as any sharp motivation. There is no Dieting Muse or Workout Muse that’s achievement to travel downward and realm on your berm and short get you all fired up to change those unwished pounds. You tally to realise that the only things that survive are you and your self-standards. When you terminate that your verbalise metric and your submit looks are simply unwelcome and beneath your standards, you’ll conclude all the motive you beggary.
