IWMSB Top 10 List

Here’s some advice I got from EverydayHealth.com:

Make a Top 10 list. Most of us roll our eyes when someone suggests counting calories. Frankly, who has the time? That’s why Seyler recommends an easier approach. “Take some time to learn the calories in the top 10 foods you regularly eat,” she says. “After you master those foods and amounts, expand your base knowledge at your own pace — 10 per week or 10 per two weeks.” This will allow you to stay on track without all the tedious counting.

So I decided to make my top 10 list.  Here is goes!

  1. Carrot cake, 490 a “serving” so I’d say at least 600 calories
  2. Taco Villa Burito (no nutritional menu online)
  3. Thai Express chicken eggplant stirfry over white rice (no nutritional menu online)
  4. McDs, fries, chicken sandwich or burger, with diet coke
  5. Chocolate milk (1 cup 170 calories)
  6. Caesar salad (light 90 calories per serving, regular 150 calories per serving)
  7. Chips (240 a bag of Lays BBQ)
  8. Beer (150 a bottle)
  9. Wine (90-150 a glass)
  10. Peach Martini (258 calories..Yikes!)

Disappointment and new business venture

So my plan was to lose 4+lbs by Monday, as in yeaterday. I’d only lost two and I’m not happy. I guess I could’ve been eating better and exercising more but I’m still disappointed.

I walked three mile five days out of seven and went on a two mile hike on Sat. I also did 30 mins of yoga on Fri and then again on Sat. I ached, I was exhausted, I thought it was all goo. Oh well, I obviously did something wrong. Hopefully this week will be better, maybe I need to drop my calorie intake a bit more. 1500/1600 could be too much.

I need to exercise more, that is the awful truth, I just don’t know what to do. Wish I could afford a gym membership.

WILL do yoga tonight. Best to do it before or after my quorn (chicken flavour) burger dinner?

Yogurt

I have never really eaten yogurt.  It seems like such a big craze… you go to the grocery store, Target, Walmart, etc. and there is an entire section just full of every flavor of yogurt you could imagine.

I signed up for emails from Hungry Girl several weeks ago and there’s this new “Hungry Girl approved” Fiber One Yogurt.  It has 20% of the fiber you should eat in a day.  So I got a coupon for $1 off and decided to give yogurt a try.

I got the strawberry version and it was pretty good.  I do feel “full” from the little 50 calorie cup.  I think I want to try another flavor though.  I’ve been reading good reviews about Key Lime.  I’ve never been a big strawberry person.  The taste is a little too sweet for me.

P.S. I want to move out of my parent’s house so bad.  I can’t wait to have my own refrigerator and stock it with only things that I should be eating.  It’s hard with two other people buying things that I shouldn’t be eating.  Though I guess it is teaching me self-control.

Water, Water Everywhere...Are You Drinking Enough?

Water is essential to weight loss. One of the biggest discoveries for most of my clients is that they do not drink enough water. Oh, they think they are drinking enough water because they drink a lot of liquid during the day. The truth is that teas, coffees, colas are not water. I’m talking pure, H2O here, nothing less than what comes directly from Mother Nature, herself.

To determine your proper hydration needs, take your body weight in pounds, divide it by two and drink that many ounces of water each day. So, if you presently weigh 200 lbs, you would need to consume 100 ounces or 12.5 8 oz. glasses of water a day, maybe a little bit more if you were exercising in hot climates. Drinking less than this can dehydrate your body. A dehydrated system does not function properly.

Consider that 83% of our blood content is water; 85% of our brain matter consists of water; 75% of our muscle is made of water; and 22% of our bone is composed of water. When we fail to properly replace the water we lose, these systems suffer. We will die of dehydration before we will die of starvation.

Drinking adequate amounts of water is important if you are trying to lose weight. Many times our body is actually thirsty and we mistake the thirst for hunger. If one doesn’t drink enough water, they could subconsciously crave food because most real foods contain water. Studies show there thurst and hunger senstaions are triggered together. Make it your goal to drink adequate amounts of water this week. It’s a tiny step on the road to proper weight management.

Letting it slide

Well, I am now half way through week 11 but I have achieved NONE of my specific goals. I had a chocolate binge on Friday, the inlaws up this weekend and two big meals out, no exercise at all, of any intensity, late nights, no meditation, the works. And the result… official weigh day today. I was up to 14 stone 4. Or 200 pounds. That’s it! I will never, ever, go above 200 pounds again. No more letting it slide. I have not come this far to throw it all away again.

Turbulence Training 5th Transformation Contest - end of week 10

This post is a little overdue – I was so ashamed. My getting back on track didn’t go quite to plan…I had a bit of a rough week overall and a truly awful weekend. I was extremely hormonal, and I couldn’t quite workout where all my symptoms were coming from, but I think I may have had a bit of a GI bug at the same time. So in between crying and retching I would either be sleeping or inhaling carbs like a vacuum cleaner. Not only was it my worst nutritional weekend/week of the contest, but my only truly awful week this year – so my first in seven months. I didn’t even bother fitday-ing after a while. Lots of sugar, lots of fat, light on the vitamins and minerals.

I did, barely get three TT workouts in, although number two was a bit of a blowout as I felt really ill and couldn’t do much. And I only managed one interval session – today.

Overall, I did actually manage to get over 5 hours exercise this week, but that was largely due to nearly three hours of low-intensity pilates through work. I only managed 30 mins of moderate intensity activity (aerobox DVD) outside of my TT workouts. So not great on my exercise goals for the week either.

I managed to go to bed by 11.30pm three times, but didn’t manage to meditate at all.

So not a great week. I did manage to get away without too much damage to my stats, if not much improvement either. I was down a pound this week with no change in body fat or most of my measurements. Half a centimeter on my waist and a centimeter off my thigh. Otherwise pretty stable.

My goals for week 11 were the same as for week 10.

Specific goals for week 11:

  1. Get at least five hours of exercise in this week
  2. Out of that, get at least 90 mins of moderate-intensity exercise on off days
  3. Do at least 30 minutes pilates this week
  4. Go to bed no later than 11.30pm at least 4 days this week
  5. Do 20 mins Transcendental Meditation three times this week

40 pounds

What is 40 pounds?

It is the weight of 8 5lb bags of sugar.

It is the weight of a medium sized dog.

Whatever it is, it is what I’m not!  I have finally reached 40 pounds lost and it feels awesome!  I think I nearly talked the ears off my CH this morning who lamented about his size.  (This before he passed out on the bed snoring because he works 3rd shift and decided to come home and do some yard work.)  I’m so ecstatic that I’m not going to let his guilt trip bring me down.

I remember when my friend and I were talking once about going to the doctor.  We both cringed at the thought of stepping on those scales and hearing the lecture from our doctors about our weight.

Get a clue!  No one needs to tell us we’re fat.  We know we are.  We don’t need that scale reminding us of what we already know and see.  If the scales do not tell us, surely the mirror and our clothes will reveal it to us.  That is a FACT!

Shedding 40 pounds feels like taking a layer off.  It reveals just more of what I already knew was in there:  ME!
