No excuses

I’ve been really slack of late. I’m playing around with my diet – a little good stuff, a little junk, and ordering in far too often when there is food already in the house and no excuse at all. I did manage to do a little exercise last week, but had that two and a half hours by Thursday, and despite being home early on Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday, didn’t do a lick more. It really isn’t good enough. My weight is holding steady but I am fed up of this and want to make some more progress. New goal for the week. Eat clean for the rest of the week. Do at least two resistance sessions, at least one interval session, and at least three hours in total exercise. No more excuses.

Welcome to my Dieting Adventure

Ok, so i at long last understood out how to produce a blog.

I really came online to check out plastic surgery options but I wouldn't be able to afford it anyway. So I decided to find before and after photos without surgery. I finished up here.

Truthfully, I'm afraid to lose weight. I hate the way I look right now. So much so that I have horrible thoughts. I'm just frightened that even if I eat right and exercise on a regular basis and lose the weight that I will still feel the same. I'm worried that my skin will be really loose. I already have so many stretch marks and saggy skin as it is. I lost some weight a few years ago but ended because of the fearfulness and noticing the lack of elasticity of my skin. I'm 165cm (5'4). The biggest i've been is 92kg (203 pounds) and i'm currently 78kgs (172). I want to be 57kgs (125). I would really love to just be able to buy clothes without it being a big drama. The only parts of my body that don't have to be covered are my forearms, neckline and head. It makes dressing a bit hard. I should really move to a cool climate. haha. Anyway, I'm just terrified it would all be for nothing and that dressing will still be just as hard but for different reasons. That's just how I feel.

Friction is a fat girls worst enemy...

It’s true!  I gotta find some better workout pants.  See, this is what I mean by excuses.  It’s too easy to find one.  So, I’ll be taking my ass to Fred Meyer’s to get a pair of “fit” pants.  Yikes.  Slightly terrifying; I am the largest person at my 24 Hour Fitness.  It doesn’t bug me too much because it’s the one place I can be sweaty and no one looks at me like I have a big booger hanging out of my nose.

This week has been good but I didn’t meet my first goal which was to hit the gym 5-6 times a week.  I think I’ve been 4 times since I last wrote.  I’ll weigh in the morning.  I haven’t really adjusted my food yet but this next week I’ll be cutting out all fluids and one cup of coffee in the morning, one sugar instead of two.  I really, really, really enjoy my coffee.  I sing the Foldgers commercial song every time I pour, if not out loud then in my head.  I can look at our coffee maker and think to myself, “Now, that’s a promise of a new day”.  It’s completely apart of my daily ritual.  So, for now it’s only going to be one cup a day.  :(

I need new workout music.  I gotta have the beats to forget the work.

This is one of my favorite songs to walk to because the beat fits perfectly with my pace, so much so that I swing my hips a little when it plays.

Weight Loss Problems? Why Gastric Bypass Surgery Doesn't Work!

Gastric bypass surgeries are temporary physical fixes to a long term mental/emotional problem! If you think the surgery is a cure-all, think again. The crazy thing is some people are gaining more weight on purpose so they can qualify to even be considered for the surgery. How sick is that?

My aunt had gastric bypass surgery last year. She was so excited about the new body she was going to have after the surgery. She just couldn’t wait for her new life to begin. This was an answer to her prayers. So she thought!

Up until then, my aunt had not exercised a day in her life. She never followed a sensible eating plan, nor did she want to. By the looks of them, none of my family had ever sacrificed anything in the way of food. The doctors had filled her head with “results” that were only possible, not even probable. Her children were totally delusional about their mom’s weight and had danced around the issue so much that my aunt was in total denial. And guess what? True to form, she gained the weight back in eight months. Why?

The answer: you can’t build a house on a foundation made of sand. If you don’t deal with what is underneath the surface of your emotional behavior toward eating and exercise, you will go right back to the beginning, no matter what you take out or do to your body. Surgery or no surgery, there is no cure-all for being overweight. However, there is a solution — do you want to hear it? Here it is:

  1. Decide how you are motivated.
  2. Determine your underlying reasons for your eating and exercise behaviors or lack thereof.
  3. Develop the best support system to promote your own personal success.
  4. Deal with the emotions behind your eating patterns.
  5. Dedicate yourself to an exercise program.

Maybe the surgery works in the short run. And maybe that will buy you some time and give you some inspiration to start exercising and eating better. However, surgery is not a means to an end! It doesn’t change your head; it only changes your stomach. If you do decide to have the surgery, please understand that without deep changes in your thought process and exercise habits, the gastric bypass surgery “results” will not stick.

3 Secrets of Your Fat Burning Holiday Plan

If you want to do the impossible and LOSE fat over the holidays, then this is going to be the most important fat burning tips article you ever read.

Losing fat and keeping the weight off over the holidays is easier than you think. And I’m going to show you exactly what you need to do to lose fat while enjoying yourself at big meals and parties over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.

There’s just 3 simple steps you need to follow.

1) You need to plan out your reward meals in advance. Remember, it is a big psychological boost to your fat loss program if you can still enjoy your favorite foods while transforming your body. So here’s what you need to do. Simply grab a calendar and mark off the days when you have a big meal planned. Don’t forget, you get at least one meal per week when you can have whatever you want. That means you can mark off Thanksgiving Thursday, and then your work holiday party, then your family Christmas dinners, and any other event you have planned. Once per week you get to reward yourself for doing such a great job with your program. So enjoy!

2) The second thing you need to do is plan out your fat burning exercises sessions in advance, so you know exactly what you need to do in order to free up more time for holiday parties, shopping, and merry-making. Remember, you don’t have to do long, slow, boring cardio if you want to lose stomach fat. In fact, you have to do just the opposite. You need to cut your workout time, cut the time you spend at the gym, and just say NO to cardio and crunches. Both are a waste of your time – and that’s my Christmas gift to you – never having to do those silly exercises ever again. Switch to the simple, bodyweight and home fat burning exercises in the Turbulence Training system. You’ll love how you can burn fat in the comfort of your own home in just a few short minutes each week.

3) Stay strong with social support. Now more than ever is the time of year when you need to spend time with your social support group. Make sure you are still checking in on the Turbulence Training member’s forum to get help and support on sticking to your fat burning plan over the holidays. You’ll get help from others all over the world to lose fat while everyone else at work gains weight. So that’s all you have to do…just follow that simple 3-step plan of reward meals, planning, and social support, and you’ll lose fat over the holidays. I strongly recommend you get the exact diet and fat burning plan from Turbulence Training from world=famous fitness expert, Craig Ballantyne. Mince Pie takes 4 miles to walk off....

Yikes….I had two of these yesterday…..

If you think just one mince pie won’t hurt, think again. Researchers say it takes a whole long slog to burn it off. A woman of average weight has to walk nearly four miles to cancel out the calories from a single Christmas treat, according to a study.

The experts calculated that a woman weighing 75kg (11st 11lbs) uses up 58 calories to cover 1km (0.62 miles) on foot. So, to work off a pie containing 360 calories she will need to walk 6.2km (3.8miles), claimed the scientists, from the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia.

Professor Nuala Byrne from QUT’s Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation said the results of the study were useful for working out the calorific cost of the festive season.

She added: ‘While we may want to say ‘Bah! Humbug!’ to such information at this time of year, it is important to remember that we can consume a lot of energy with very little effort, and this energy then takes a lot of time and exercise to get rid of.

‘In other words, a walk to the corner shops does not equal a Mars bar.

‘This help explains the “coffee break effect” of no weight loss despite exercise – people go for a walk and reward themselves at the end with coffee and cake.

‘The coffee’s fine but in weight-management terms the cake undoes the benefits of the walk, and then some.’

Misconceptions about Weight Loss

1. Exercise- Exercise is the one absolute that is required for permanent weight loss. An exercise program of five 30-minute sessions per week should be employed into the schedule. This can be achieved by exercising for 10 minutes, three times a day.

Day 67

Became a day behind due to the passing of my father in law.  He does not live in Michigan anymore and hasn’t for about ten years.  We currently do not have a memorial service planned.  It is a sad passing because he has not lived much or well for those past ten years. I am going to bounce around with my thoughts and try to bring them all together in the end.

I went to Ortonville for the final laser surgery on my gums today, and upon completion they were more sore than last weeks.  I debated about going to work out with everyone, due to the fact that every time I would move they would throb.  I just couldn’t not go.  For two reasons, I am not a quitter when you join a team you stick with it till the end.  My knee, the gums all things that would love to quit because of but I can’t.  Slow down yes quit no.  Second reason, I want to live.  My father in law being a good example for this.  Ten or eleven years ago he was told he had an enlarged heart and that he better take it easy. He took that to literally mean don’t do anything, as in not to exert himself or his heart could explode and he would die. He had a temper the Dr.  actually was telling him to learn to control his temper and his blood pressure.  What would have done him a world of good was to get off the couch and begin to walk.  At that time he probably weighed close to 350 maybe more and was about 5′ 7″.  Not a tall man, but morbidly obese.  He was only 70 years old.  I don’t want to leave this earth because of poor health, not when there are things that I can do to change that.

Till tomorrow – choose to live.

Doc

To all the courageous....take one step forward

It’s that time again! HOLIDAYS. They are a fabulous part of life, they’re going to continually bless us with sharing and family…..and can become a repeated excuse to “let it all go” because the Holidays “gave you permission” to do so.

Let’s take a look:

1. Thanksgiving prep is underway!
2. Relatives are comin.
3. Meeting the new boyfriends/girlfriends for the first time (awkward as HELL I mean, the first meeting and you’re the newbie and get left all alone with the family’s drunk uncle? Oh yes, when I was a new girlfriend it happened to me. So………we went high class all the way, it was a bud night–from the can!)

4. Food is everywhere and your mom begs you to help clean something, but you escape and go play across the street, and I almost died that day, I didn’t get one toe out the door are you kidding?
But this year my only escape is to my Thanksgiving Day Body Blast—and you can escape too!!

Check it out here: http://wp.me/pmtrp-98

5. People start arriving and all the “OMG you’re getting so big” comments fly. By the way, I don’t think I ever really received that comment. I mean, I’m 5’0 for chrissakes!
. THANKS FOR THE PIC HAPA!!
6. In goes the first piece of….whatever cause everything just looks sooooo good!
7. And the onslaught begins!
8. Pile on more……….everything and “don’t come back unless you bring a beer with it.” (Ummm, how does one eat like a cow AND drink beer? I get too full which is why I choose Grey Goose Orange straight up. No bloat, can eat more. Ahem).
9. FOOD COMA!
10. Wake up to the football game and screaming people, (and to the sound of somebody opening another beer), so you get up believing there’s still one cubic centimeter to shovel in some more.
11. Kinda like “well its Thanksgiving I deserve MORE food,” like what, you’re never going to eat again….ever?
12. So you do.
13. Pants ready to rip (even though you deliberately wore stretch).
14. Walking around, or I mean SWISHING around desperately in search of comfort and relief of the pressure on you belly just waiting to burst- -
15. And you find comfort….in another slice of pie, but this time ala mode.
16. Wishing you hadn’t deserved that last piece of death on a leash you contemplate another coma saying, “Maybe I’ll feel better when I wake up.”
17. Thanksgiving was a blast! Family. Food. Fun.
18. The Holidays gave you permission (remember) to gain the 10 to 15lbs, and please do it freely, after all, you deserve it, so post Thanksgiving, actually during the day of the feasting, you’re planning the office parties, how much fudge you’re going to be making, talking about all the treats that the vendors bring to your office (not your fault you ate, right? DAMN VENDORS!).
19. New Year shows up (like you had no idea it was coming), and you’re feeling guilty at the 15lbs you happily gained (and let’s remember, it’s the Holidays’ fault),
20. Ahhhh incomes the deliberate stance for breeding and nurturing stress over the 15lbs resulting in creating the fat cells to get bigger, (stress triggers fat cells to get bigger to protect you—nice huh?).
21. And now gotta dig out of a bigger hole due to procrastination on the New Year’s Resolution.
22. All the while the guilt is making you eat more, and what do you know, spring is already here and what you had planned to do went to the wayside.
23. “God I feel like shit.”
24. Awww “screw it” you say, “I still have a couple months till summer, and I’ll get the weight off.”
25. “WOW I didn’t know summer was here already,” you say in absolute amazement.
26. “I hate shopping for swimsuits.”
27. “But I have a wedding in July, I have more time.”
28. I better wear that one black dress I have; it’s my “fat dress.” Black is slimming.
29. “Why did I wait so long to get anything done?”
30. I’ll wait till the kids go back to school and then get back on my routine. (By the way, you haven’t created one but thought you did by planning to do so without action. “BUT I THOUGHT ABOUT IT ! DON’T I GET POINTS FOR THAT,” you say?).
31. Back to school: “I’m exhausted, I can’t exercise today, I’ll start after I get back into back to school groove.”
32. “NO WAY it’s Halloween? Aww no problem! It’s the first official day of the holiday celebration and now I’m FREE again to eat whatever till the New Year!”
33. “New Years Eve-I’ll wear that black dress AGAIN; it’s the only thing that fits me.”
34. “I worthless.”
35. “HAPPY NEW YEAR………..”
36. “What’s so happy about it? I’m now 30 lbs heavier-I gained 30 lbs in two years?! HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?!?”
37. “I can’t do anything right.”
38. “Okay, January 5th I’m goin back to the gym.”
39. “I wonder if my friend will go with me
40. “I have a workout buddy!”
41. “But they said they aren’t coming today. I guess I’ll stay home and wait till they can pick me up and then we’ll go together. (I can’t believe they cancelled; now I can’t get a workout).”
42. “I’m fat, unattractive and nobody is ever going to love me.”
43. “Spring?” Psssssssssshh. Summer’s coming. When the kids are out of school I’ll have more time to work out.
44. Ooooh-quick diet! Starve for 30 days on some crap juice losing my muscle tone leaving my arms to the easy task of: weathervane! Just stick my arm out and the FLAP will tell you where the wind is blowing. Perfect.
45. Nah, I’ll just wait till kids go back to school.
46. Back to school: “I’m exhausted, I can’t exercise today, I’ll start after I get back into back to school groove.”
47. “NO WAY it’s Halloween? Aww no problem! It’s the first official day of the holiday celebration and now I’m FREE again to eat whatever till the New Year!”
48. “New Years Eve-I’ll wear that black dress AGAIN; it’s the only thing that fits me.”
49. “I worthless.”
50. “HAPPY NEW YEAR………..”
51. “What’s so happy about it? I’m now 40 lbs heavier-I gained 40 lbs in three years?! HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?!?”
52. “I can’t do anything right.”
53. “Okay, January 5th I’m goin back to the gym.”

Yes, this is a very common pattern.

How about breaking the cycle at # 18 and find some redemption?

Find redemption here: http://www.absolute-fitness-results.com/usana-challenge.html
This is your chance to make a difference in you, period. There is no need to fear all the evil, pending and absolutely 100% going to happen “holiday weight gain” like its accepted and allowed.

It’s only allowed if you give it permission.

And while there is full pleasure on pleasing our palettes, visiting with family and eating to our heart’s content on Thanksgiving, there’s also a plan in place for the “after the party is over.”

Click here for the already done-for-you plan: http://www.absolute-fitness-results.com/usana-challenge.html

“Yes, it is a miracle that I lost weight on RESET, 6 pounds to be exact, because seriously I have been in a plateau with my weight for two years…that’s right I said it 2 years!!! I have changed my exercise routine, tried not to eat junk and increased my fiber intake, I started running…miles (which I thought I would hate and never imagined doing when I used to weigh over 200lbs.. a lot has changed since then). Nothing has helped or made a shift except the RESET. I am absolutely glad I did it, being on the program reminded me of things about food that I have heard a million times before but for some reason this time it sinked in my brain, food is a drug and effects your mood, health, and obviously weight. I have learned to treat it as such because in all honesty it has been my choice of addiction. Smoking…no, drugs…no, food…pile it on! The pleasure is only momentary.

Thank you Annette for your daily support it meant a lot on the days where I thought the headaches and light-headedness had me in, I just knew that someone was cheering me on and it did help. I have continued to use the protein shakes as meal substitutes and I have already lost a pound and a half this week. Life is good and getting better!! Thanks gurl!”

~ Regina Sanchez

“I starting this Usana cleanse thinking “I love food too much what the hell am I doing to my body”. This first day (Monday) I was scare, apprehensive and eager to get through the day. I had plans to go to a concert that night with friends and while they were eating buffalo wings and drinking beer there I was with my chocolate shake, veggies and strawberries. After that night I thought, ” Hell yeah, I can do this”.

Ready to tackle another day, life happened and my car broke down which left me feeling frustrated and not wanting to go through with the USANA cleanse because I knew that I could not attend my normal work out classes.

After I got to work that day I read the e-mails Annette sent giving support and guidance which helped me realized that I have to think about myself and not worry about what happens around me, cuz that will never change. I set a goal to work out that night (Tuesday) and when I got to the gym it was all about me!!!!

The last three days of the program were rough because I really wanted foods like: chicken, steak, cheese and ice cream. As soon as I remembered that I had a goal for what I wanted to gain from this experience it became clear to me that I needed to put the effort to receive any results……Surprise surprise, my body answered back with……….I lost weight. I know that my goal was to lose weight, but I also gained sooooo much in a good way.

Thanks for all of your support Annette.”

“I love your daily emails they make such an impact for me. I can’t believe that I am still able to do all of my workouts and by day three I was like really I ate so little worked out hard and my body was satisfied with what I had, really I couldn’t believe it.

I am amazed how well I’m doing the second time around, no headaches. Sometimes I forget I’m doing the reset because I feel good. However I do miss eating other healthy foods.

Day 5 here I come!”

Weighing In - Week 1

Along-with improving my financial health, I am also trying to improve my physical health. And one core goal in this area for me is reducing my weight (by reducing the fat content).

I have tried it all - crash diets including liquid diets, no-carb diets, fruits only diets and none of these have helped me.

We (my husband and I) are planning on trying for kids next year, which means I need to focus on my weight issues while ensuring that I do not compromise on nutrition. My weight loss effort will be completely based on lifestyle changes and I will try and incorporate at least one healthy habit a day towards reaching this.

To check my weight loss progress, I will weigh in once a week. This will be on Wednesdays (almost mid-week) every week. While I would like to add measurements (to check for loss of inches), I will start with just the weighing scale and then progress.

Today’s weight: 67 Kgs

BMI: 29.8

Target Weight by March 2010: 120 pounds

Target BMI: 24.2

5 Key Tips To Help You Achieve Your Weight Loss Goals

Key Factor One – Eat A Healthy Breakfast EVERY day.

It might see like an easy option to skip breakfast. Some people do not feel like eating when they first wake up. Others see it as an easy way to avoid a few calories. It is actually counterproductive to avoid breakfast. Key studies have revealed that skipping breakfast can greatly increase your chances of gaining weight. There are many reasons for this. Eating breakfast helps to fire up the body’s metabolism for the rest of the day. By delaying this process you will be less energetic. You will also be less able to cope with processing food that you eat during the day. If you skip this vital meal, you are likely to eat more towards the end of the day. Try to make sure that your breakfast is a healthy one. Avoid fatty and processed foods – such as bacon or sausages. Try to eat wholegrain cereals, wholemeal bread, fruit, and boiled eggs.

Key Factor Two – You Must Have A Plan Of Action

Many people fall at the first hurdle because they do not develop a plan of action. Making the commitment to lose weight is a very important step. However, it is vital to know how you are going to actually achieve your goal.

Ask yourself the following questions -

How much weight do you want to lose?

  • How much weight do you actually need to lose?
  • What food strategies are you are going to employ?
  • What is your exercise plan?
  • What possible obstacles you might find along the way?
  • What does your doctor/nurse advise you to do?

Without a plan there is a strong chance that your motivation gives way to procrastination and failure.

Key Factor Three – Eat healthy and regular meals

Dieting does not mean the same thing as starving yourself. It is very easy to fall in to the trap of thinking that a dieting is a form of deprivation. Starving yourself will lead to feelings of deprivation. It will also have a significant impact on your metabolism.  Your metabolism will begin to slow down. The brain is alerted that you need sustenance and energy. This in turn leads to the overwhelming compulsion to binge. The key to dieting is quite simple. It is vital to eat a variety of different fresh foods that are not processed or high in sugars and fat.  Learn to fill up on what is good for you and construct a diet plan based on the huge variety of good foods out there.

Key Factor Four – Drink Plenty Of Water Every Day

Water is an excellent weight loss tool. The feeling of dehydration is very easily confused as hunger pains. Try this little experiment next time you have hunger pains – soon after you have already eaten – drink a glass of water. You should find that your cravings subside considerably.

It is also possible to get extra water by eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. This will help your metabolism to burn extra calories quicker. If you are really serious about losing weight, then maintaining water levels is a must.

Key Factor Five – Don’t Get Up!

A lot of weight loss plans fail when an individual gets frustrated from a lack of immediate benefit. The issue here often seems to be that the initial expectations of the weight loss regime are set too high.  Failure to reach these goals leads to dejection, anxiety, and eventual reluctance to continue the plan. You should aim to set realistic goals. Nobody losses weight safely overnight. You should also think about the immediate benefits gained from exercise. Think about how more energetic and alert you feel during exercise and afterwards. Think of the other benefits you may notice such as better sleep. Remember – there is a lot more to exercise than just weight loss.

Good Calories, Bad Calories - Review

On page 169 of his book, Gary Taubes quotes Albert Einstein, who once said that “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler.”

Why didn’t Gary take Albert’s words to heart?!!!

This book is awesome, in every sense of the word. It is a comprehensive look at the research surrounding diet and obesity, since research in that area began.

It is also incredibly dense and difficult to read, and, I think, poorly structured. Themes, dates, studies, characters, are repeated throughout the book. I wish Gary had hired an editor!!!

That being said, the book is still incredible. It’s an amazing look into the vagaries of science – that there is essentially only conflicting evidence around the diet-heart, or cholesterol-heart hypotheses, and that those ideas have been driven mostly by fame-hungry researchers, or by the impetus of the thrust of research itself (once the general tenor is set, research tends to continue in the same direction). It is a fascinating look at human dietary physiology.

Earlier today, I was speaking with a client about this book, and saying that I had reached the point (at page 384…roughly 80 still to go, after two months of plodding) where I wished Gary had produced a Cliff Notes version of his book.

Then, lo and behold, on page 453-4 of the book, he does. I’ll quote the entire “summation” here, because I think the message is important. It goes against everything we’ve been told for the past 30-50 years. But that stuff wasn’t really backed up by anything at all. Read the following passage, and if you’re still interested, read the book!

“As I emerge from this research, though, certain conclusions seem inescapable to me, based on the existing knowledge:
1. Dietary fat, whether saturated or not, is not the cause of obesity, heart disease, or any other chronic disease of civilization.
2. The problem is the carbohydrates in the diet, their effect on insulin secretion, and thus the hormonal regulation of homeostasis – the entire harmonic ensemble of the human body. The more easily digestible and refined the carbohydrates, the greater the effect on our health, weight, and well-being.
3. Sugars – sucrose and high-fructose corn syrup specifically – are particularly harmful, probably because the combination of fructose and glucose simultaneously elevates insulin levels while overloading the liver with carbohydrates.
4. Through their direct effect on insulin and blood sugar, refined carbohydrates, starches, and sugars are the dietary cause of coronary heart disease and diabetes. They are the most likely dietary causes of cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and the other chronic diseases of civilization.
5. Obesity is a disorder of excess fat accumulation, not overeating, and not sedentary behavior.
6. Consuming excess calories does not cause us to grow fatter, any more than it causes a child to grow taller. Expending more energy than we consume does not lead to long-term weight loss; it leads to hunger.
7. Fattening and obesity are caused by an imbalance – a disequilibrium – in the hormonal regulation of adipose tissue and fat metabolism. Fat synthesis and storage exceed the mobilization of fat from the adipose tissue and its subsequent oxidation. We become leaner when the hormonal regulation of the fat tissue reverses this balance.
8. Insulin is the primary regulator of fat storage. When insulin levels are elevated – either chronically or after a meal – we accumulate fat in our fat tissue. When insulin levels fall, we release fat from our fat tissue and use it for fuel.
9. By stimulating insulin secretion, carbohydrates make us fat and ultimately cause obesity. The fewer carbohydrates we consume, the leaner we will be.
10. By driving fat accumulation, carbohydrates also increase hunger and decrease the amount of energy we expend in metabolism and physical activity.”

Don't Fear the Weigh-er

I just got back from a 4-day retreat that featured some extremely delicious and “clean” food. I pretty much tried to keep it intuitive and mindful and all that but I DID indulge in some beautiful apple crisp (with whipped cream) one night, and some lovely sherry pound cake (with whipped cream) another night. Those people really do know how to make the most divine whipped cream. So I was a little worried. BUT I did get activity in every day – a couple long walks, and then my little trip home to test my blood and do that awesome 14 minute workout, and it was pretty good.

So I was relieved and happy to see that I weighed less when I came home, than I did last week before leaving. That was a real affirmation. Yay. And it reinforced my dearly held belief that I can eat yummy things like dessert with whipped cream and still lose weight.

At the end of this week I have a big staff meeting at WW, a “Tune-Up” to let us know about program changes for 2010. On the national staff message boards, it seem that some of these meetings across the country have included surprise weigh-ins. OH BOY. This threw me into a bit of a tizzy for a little bit.  But then I realized, you know, I should be ready to be weighed in ANY DAY of ANY WEEK, and not worry about it. Yeah right? I thought of calling my supervisor and asking if this was going to happen, but then I realized… what? That if he says “no,” it gives me license to eat like a horse and not work out? And if he says “yes” I’m going to start scrimping on the food? NO NO NO.

I decided to not ask. I decided to just calm down and stay mindful. I decided that my goal is to stay at my same weight that I was this morning. If I do that, I am fine.

But anyone who has faced that scale knows the funny little game playing that can go on. To have a big “cheat day” the day after a weigh-in. To eat hardly anything the few days leading up.  The same thing can happen to staffers, you know. We have our weigh-ins near the first of the month. So the prospect of being weighed on the 20th, was like, UH OH! But that is dangerous thinking. I have to keep telling myself, this is for real, for good, for every day.  Sure, Things Happen, but I’m not going to PLAN to go off program and gain weight just because I think I’m not going to be weighed for a while.

In other news, I took up the challenge to do Jillian’s 30-Day Shred again. I hadn’t done it in a while but I remembered that I liked it. Well, it kicked my little booty! I did the Level 2, and used my brand new 8 lb weights. OH MAN. I was a sweaty mess after 20 minutes. I have to say, that Shred is the most efficient workout thing EVER. And I will do it again tomorrow! I might not do it every single day, ie I will not do it when I see my own trainer because IMHO that is total overkill. But I will do it every other day.

I start my two new At-Work meetings this week! One of them is (almost) all women and the other one is (almost) all men! Won’t that be interesting!! I am enlisting the help of the ever-awesome Jack Sh*t to help me keep the men entertained. (did you see his great post on why losing weight is like sex? LOL) I’m really looking forward to it. Today I got a big box of leaderish office supplies via UPS, including about ten million large paper clips. What will I do with those? They will probably last me until my retirement at the age of 103.

Would You Ingest a Parasite, on Purpose?

How far would you go to lose weight? Would you let a 15-foot tapeworm live in your stomach in order to shed those unwanted pounds? The Tyra Show recently featured two women who would.

Click on the video above to see what a tapeworm looks like.

Chalk it up to shock TV, but it’s true that some people become so desperate when traditional diets fail that they are willing to swallow a parasite to consume their extra calories. While this is arguably one of the most extreme methods of losing weight, it’s actually nothing new. Ads dating back to the late 1800’s feature a woman promoting the “easy to swallow, sanitized” tapeworms in order to lose weight without diet or exercise. Sounds like a magic diet pill — eat whatever you want and still lose weight. Except this is no pill. It’s the same parasite found in undercooked meat and seafood that can make people extremely ill.

In case you’re not totally grossed out yet, here is how the tapeworm diet works: People ingest a tapeworm cyst from a cow (some come from pigs and fish too, but those are considered more dangerous). The tapeworm then grows inside the digestive track absorbing calories from your body, which can result in losing one to two pounds a week. Once the target weight is lost, an antibiotic is taken to get rid of the tapeworm.

Tapeworm sales are banned in the U.S. because they carry substantial health risks. While a sizable portion of ingested calories go to the tapeworm, so do vital nutrients. This can lead to vitamin deficiencies and anemia. Other harmful effects include abdominal pain, bloating, digestive disturbances and intestinal obstruction, according to Joan Salge Blake, a clinical associate professor of nutrition at Boston University. There is also the potential for putting the weight back on once the tapeworm is killed — if it doesn’t kill you first (some strains can be deadly). Plus, some tapeworms can grow to 50 feet, which is just downright disgusting, no matter how you look at it. It’s no wonder that “purposefully consuming tapeworms is not healthy,” according to Blake.

The risks far outweigh the benefits (you can drop one to two pounds a week with diet and exercise). Stick with the tried and true methods of losing weight, and leave the worms out of it.

Day 58

Not much to report on my personal progress.  I was suppose to go swim tonight but I allowed a few things to get in the way.  One was physical and I decided I would rather rest, the other was work, but I had already decided not to go when we ended up being at the office past 6:15.  Either way I have been arriving home three nights a week at 7:30 or later since the start of this and I just wanted to go home.  So today was my day of rest, I think it may be a problem come Monday, but I hope not.  The reason it may be a problem is I have some dental surgery on Thursday and I don’t know how I will feel for Thursdays workout. I don’t need nor can I afford two days of rest.

The biggest loser on T.V. threw in a big twist tonight with a red line and a yellow line.  So two people went home tonight.  It made me cry to see Shay go home.  The red line created a lot of stress for the contestants.  On other episodes we have seen stress cause some to not lose any weight.  Tonight most everyone had great numbers even with the stress, they were able to overcome it physically but I think that they had to overcome a lot emotionally as well to succeed. It will be a great lead in to tomorrow’s class, because tomorrow is stress class. The class will also involve are responsibility to ourselves and our self talk.  Most of don’t realize that how we interpret our world is our choice not someone else and that we get to decide if we let things bother us.  I like to explain it as you accept what is truth for you and untruth, it is your movie you get to produce it.  Change the scenes, landscape, words, etc… The other thing that we will talk about is that the body is not able to differentiate between positive (a wedding, birth of a baby) and negative stress.  It responds to stress (change) the same for each circumstance.   I hope it will be informative.

Till tomorrow – here’s to change.

How to Break Bad Habits

How to Break Bad Habits

By: Craig Ballantyne, CSCS, MS
TurbulenceTraining.com

We all have bad habits. Mine are checking email too frequently,
being unorganized, and not always eating enough to fuel full
recovery from my workouts.

Your bad habits might include too much snacking and cheating on
your nutrition plan, coming up with excuses to skip exercise, or
watching too much TV.

Bad habits are the reason we need coaches. One of my coaches is Lee
Milteer, who gave me the exercises below, that I want you to go
through to help you break your bad habits.

If you’ve been trying to lose fat and get lean by yourself, but
with no luck, isn’t it time to get professional help & social
support?

It’s hard to change. I know it. I battle against my bad habits all
the time, just like you do everyday. But each day I also make an
effort to overcome the bad habits, just as you should have a plan
in place to overcome your bad weight loss habits.

Don’t let insecurity, fear of failure, or the fear of the unknown
hold you back from making changes. Don’t be a victim. “Give yourself
PERMISSION to change,” Lee says.

So let’s take action. Print this email out. Now write down 3 excuses
you are using to avoid making the changes you need to succeed.

1.______________________________________________________________
2.______________________________________________________________
3.______________________________________________________________

How have these excuses affected your life? What have the excuses
stopped you from achieving? Write down 3 very important things that
you have missed out on because you’ve allowed yourself to make
excuses.

1.______________________________________________________________
2.______________________________________________________________
3.______________________________________________________________

Now how do you feel when you fall victim to one of your self-
sabotaging excuses?
______________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________

What benefits do you get from the excuse? Is it simply that you get
to remain in your comfort zone? That’s a big one for me. If I can
convince myself that I need to check my email, then I get to remain
in my comfort zone and avoid the hard work and fear of failure that
comes with writing an article. Or is it the fear of the unknown
that is holding you back? Write down 3 ways you benefit from making
excuses.

1.______________________________________________________________
2.______________________________________________________________
3.______________________________________________________________

So now we both know why we’ve created our excuses – to avoid
something. All we need to do now is find a way to overcome these
bad habits. I want you to write down 3 behaviors you want to stop.

1.______________________________________________________________
2.______________________________________________________________
3.______________________________________________________________

Now write down why you end up doing it…were you bored, fearful,
lazy, etc.

1.______________________________________________________________
2.______________________________________________________________
3.______________________________________________________________

Now give yourself the permission to change. “Envision the rewards
you will get when you make the change to your life and habits,” Lee
tells us. Give yourself a powerful list of reasons for fixing the
habit.

1.______________________________________________________________
2.______________________________________________________________
3.______________________________________________________________

Working on bad habits everyday will give you an incredible boost
in self-esteem and confidence. With each small successful
improvement you’ll build confidence to take on the bigger, badder
habits that are holding you back.

Remember, everyday we are a work in progress. You might have bad
days, but as long as you make overall improvement each week and
month – that is all that matters.

Lee also recommends charting your progress. I have said many times
before that you need to keep records of your workouts and
nutrition. Only then will you know what works and how much
improvement you have made.

And finally, get social support. Don’t expect to do this alone.

One research study from Stanford University concluded social
support was the #1 factor for success in an exercise program.

Day 6 - Breakfast and Lunch (and the dirty dish ghost)

I have been so busy today! Sorry I haven’t updated yet, but I had stupid stuff to do that precluded walking. The main stupid thing was work. The minor stupid thing was washing the dishes.

I’m one of those people who makes “never again” claims. As in “never again will I let the dishes pile up in the sink,” or, “never again will I have a few two many brewskis and wake up to find that a ghost has polished off the whole case, thrown up in my fireplace, hit me over the head, and vanished.”

As you might have guessed, the most recent one was about letting the dishes pile up. It’s gross, and I hate it, but sometimes the “case-race ghost” teams up with the “dirty dish ghost” and I end up with a sink filled to the brim with nasty day old dishes.

So I washed them, and it took at least an hour. I decided that the dishes were a smidge more important than a blog update, which was a decision I regretted immediately when I saw just how many dishes there really were.

-Breakfast-
1/4 c. grits –130
1 T. butter –100
fake grape kool aid (so good!) –zilch

Total for breakfast: 230.

-Lunch-
4 slices of turkey: 120
2 slices white wheat bread –100
1 T. Ken’s lite italian dressing
fake grape kool aid –nada

Total for lunch: 255

The slug of peanut butter I’m about to eat (2 T.) –190

Calories remaining today: 1,107.

Yeehaw!

Day 56

In the exercise world there is not a lot to report.  Skye, my St. Bernard and I went into town and took a walk around the KART trail, which is 1.86 miles.  It was a nice walk the day was beautiful. As we were walking we passed C and her family out riding their bikes.  I was intending on going for a swim and getting into the gym, but the day was spent on the farm and working out Wednesday talk on stress.  I also needed to get to Petoskey to deliver a love seat to Kendra and Kyle my daughter and her husband, plus get adjusted. Kyle is a chiropractor as well.  The nice part is seeing my grandson Hamish also.

Tomorrow is weigh in, our eighth one.  I am almost none emotional about it now.  It is not like I am going to get thrown off the program if I am the lowest in weight loss.  I wonder if the next session we should throw another twist in such as some form of penalty if you are below the yellow line.  Just a thought.  When we were with Kendra and Kyle tonight Kyle asked what my goal was with this “experiment”.  I thought it was very funny he called it an experiment.  I told him it was to get people to balance and see all three aspects of health, how they eat, how they move, and how they think.  My personal goal was to lose 30 pounds.  What I have learned is how I didn’t move, how I also choose my foods (not always wisely), and that it takes work to keep your talk positive, the blogs are probably a good example of that.  So has the experiment worked?  Way beyond my expectations.

Till tomorrow – eat, move, and think well.

The North American market is expected to account for nearly 65% of the total revenues.

Browse 45 market data tables and in-depth TOC on Electroactive Polymers market.
Early buyers will receive 10% customization of reports
http://www.marketsandmarkets.com/Market-Reports/electroactive-polymers-advanced-technologies-and-global-market-87.html

Technological developments in the electronics and semiconductor industries have led to the creation of polymers that change shape on the application of voltage. The biggest application for electroactive polymers (EAPs) lies in their future use as actuators and sensors, which in turn opens up a huge spectrum of applications in the fields of electronics, healthcare, sensing, and solar energy generation. With the growing market for each of these applications, EAP is set to become a mainstream market in the next five years. However, the technical specifications for each application differ widely, and extensive research and investments are still needed for developing application-specific EAPs. As the EAP market is still in the early phase, it presents a lot of advantages for the early movers. As there are not too many companies involved now, detailed knowledge of the competitors will be crucial for the success of each company.

The conductive plastics segment forms the largest submarket of the overall electroactive polymers market with an expected US$2.25 billion by 2014 at a CAGR of 7.3% from 2009 to 2014. The high market size of conductive plastics follows from its extensive use in electrostatic discharge and electromagnetic interference protection. Intensive R&D efforts, early product commercialization, and the high absorption rate of electronic products made North America the dominant market in 2008. The region held a 64% share of the global electroactive polymers product market, followed by Europe with a 22% share in the same year.

Scope of the report

This report, aims to identify and analyze products and applications that use electroactive polymers. The report has segmented the global electroactive polymers market as follows:

Day 51

So this is getting posted rather late.  The day got by me and I almost totally forgot to post it entirely.  I was very discouraged upon rising today.  Mel ran us like a fiend.  The idea behind it was good, but my knees are acting up and now not just one but both are swollen.  I could hardly walk.  At lunch I went to the Kaliseum to work out, I managed to get 30 minutes in on the elliptical and the leg exercises to help the knees.  I am totally complaining and I know it.  While we were jogging Monday night I about 10 minutes into it I began to walk it was so uncomfortable.  I just looked at Mel and said I am tired of hurting.  I want to be able to run/jog/walk without my knees hurting.  I took x-rays the other day and the joints look good.  I think that it is still my nerve supply from my low back because when I get adjusted more than once a week they are better.  Now I know that I have to make time to get adjusted two or three times a week.

When I got home at lunch I but Tei-fu (which is like icy hot) on my knees, that relieved them some.  After the biggest loser on T.V. I got into the hot tub as well.  Let’s hope that helps.  Tracey got kicked off the biggest loser tonight, I am so glad her bulging eyes drove me crazy.  Sorry for the side track.  The goal for tomorrow is to just do it.  No matter how much my knees hurt I just have to do it.

Till tomorrow –  ”Just do it”

The Importance of Staying Qualified in Your Business

Most network marketing and direct sales companies have some minimum requirement that you need to buy to stay active.  How often you need to meet this minimum requirement varies by company.  It can be monthly, quarterly, or even yearly.  Companies that don’t trust you to remember have something called autoship.  Other companies just have some amount (measured by dollars or sometimes points) that you need to order monthly to stay qualified.  Why do companies have these requirements?  How can you make sure you stay active?

There are several reasons that companies have these requirements.  One is that when you sign up to represent the business, the company wants to make sure that you have an opportunity to learn as much about the products as possible.  By requiring you to purchase something within a certain time frame, they encourage you to try and/or consistently use their products.  After all, you should be a product of the product!  Generally you are getting these products at a discount.  If you are serious about the business, you won’t mind the minimum requirements.  If you are just in the business to get the discount, this quickly becomes apparent when you don’t meet your minimum requirements.

How often you are required to meet a minimum activity level determines the type of system you need to remind yourself.  If your company uses autoship, you really don’t have to do anything (except make sure there is enough money on your card to cover the purchase!).  The company will automatically send you whatever product(s) you decided to order when you signed up for autoship at the time you designated.  Autoship is nice since you don’t have to worry about remembering to place an order. It is not so nice in that you have to remember to change the autoship if you find you want to change what you order monthly and there is generally limited flexibility to change the time that the shipment takes place.

If you have a quarterly or yearly requirement, or if your company does not use autoship, you need to be a little more proactive.  Mark your calendar (with a reminder) when the order is due.  If there is no specific time in the month that the order has to go out, decide at the beginning of the month when you plan to order and put that date on your calendar.  Most of the time you can decide what you want and just hold it in a shopping cart until you are ready to order.  If you company has this capability, decide when you want at your leisure (maybe in the beginning of the month) and just leave it in the shopping cart.  That way, if you find yourself in a time crunch, you won’t have to rush and try to find something to order.

Whatever system you use, it is important to stay qualified in your organization.  If you don’t stay qualified you may risk losing commissions or your position in the company.  Take your business seriously and buy and use the products you represent!

Welcome To My Blog... And My Very FIRST Post! :-)

So after weeks of procrastination… I decided to get my “fitness” blog up today so I can start recording and documenting my progress (hopefully… LOL ) as I go through my 90 Day Workout “Transformation”…

For the last month or so, I’ve been documenting my workouts on Youtube with Video Blogs… but I figured having an actual blog will actually allow me to record my workout, eating habits, any vitamins I decide to take, etc…. and also post articles that I’ve read that are helping me.

In this blog, I’ll also review diets and programs that I’ve used in the past or present that are working for me… and I’ll even review “stuff” that didn’t work for me as well.

Lastly, I’ll try and “import” Youtube videos I’ve made over the last month on my channel onto this blog… so you can see my progress or lack thereof… and hopefully, you’ll post comments and follow along with your own fitness or diet program.

Come visit me on my main blog by clicking here!
Till the next post…

Fat Burning Abdominal Circuit Workout

Most people think abdominal workouts require hundreds of sit-ups and crunches. The truth, however, is that they are just a waste of your time, and in some cases, may actually injure your low back. If you really want 6-pack abs along with a sculpted body then the most efficient and effective way of achieving it is through total body exercises. In this workout you will be performing nine total body exercises in circuit fashion. Therefore, each exercise will be performed back to back to back with no rest in between.

Start with kettlebell swings. These are 2-hand swings and you need to power up with the hips. Drive them back and power them back up. Move immediately into extended pushups. Move your arms out in front of you as you lower yourself down and back up.

The next exercise is a stability ball pike. This is a more advanced version of the stability ball jackknife. Place your feet on the ball and your hands on the floor and pull the ball in as you push your hips up until you are in a pike position. Try to get your hips as high up as possible. If you are not very flexible, just do jackknifes in place of them. Move immediately into stability ball back extensions. Plant your feet against a wall or something stable. Your chest is supported by the ball. Place your hands behind your head and raise yourself up and back down.

Next is a 1-arm kettlebell swing. Make sure you are driving back with your hips and back up. If you are more advanced, you can do snatches in place of the swings.

Do all reps on one side and then do all reps on the other side. Next you will do high rep close grip pushups. Tuck your elbows into your sides with your hands closer

together as you move down and back up. Do as many as you can.

Move immediately into stability ball leg curls. Place your feet on the ball and bridge your hips up with your arms out to the side. Curl the ball in while keeping your hips up the entire time. Do 20 reps. The next exercise is a stability ball rollout. Place the ball in front of you and start in an upright position, roll the ball out. Get a nice long stretch as you roll out and contract your abs when you pull it back in. If you have an ab wheel, you can use that in place of a stability ball. This is going to be harder than using a stability ball.

Finally, you’re going to finish off preferably with a sprint as the last exercise. If you can’t do sprinting, you can sprint in place or finish with burpees. In most cases, although you aren’t directly targeting your abdominals, you are still required to brace them which in turn indirectly works your abdominals for a powerfully efficient abdominal workout. If you want maximum fat burning results, switch from crunches and cardio to the belly fat burning Turbulence Training workouts:

Carrie Underwood’s Diet

Country singer, Carrie Underwood, always look fantastic when she appears on stage. The Grammy Award winner was often criticized by the media for her “fuller figure” earlier on in her career. Up to present Carrie has managed to shed 20 pounds since first appearing on American Idols despite her obsession with cheese and can teach one a thing or two about how to keep their body weight under control.

Carrie follows a vegetarian diet and is very conscious about what she takes in. “I’m slightly obsessive-compulsive about what I eat, more than I should be. I write down everything I eat,” she says. She keeps a diary of her food intake and in this way can monitor her calories intake. …
